Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEOLINDA do Ceu CARDOSO (nee RAFAEL) Peacefully, on Friday, June 11, 2004, Deolinda do Ceu Rafael Cardoso passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 83 years. Deolinda was born April 23, 1921 in Faja Grande, Flores, Azores, Portugal. She was predeceased by her parents, Jose Rafael and Conceicao Freitas Rafael; her husband Joao Inacio; sisters, Maria and Conceicao Rafael; brothers, Angelo, Jose, Fernando and Moises Rafael. On October 10, 1979, she and her husband immigrated to Winnipeg to join her son John and his family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She spent her time cooking for her son and grandson, tending to her garden, and helping out the ladies in the kitchen at the Portuguese Cultural Centre, Casa dos Acores. She was fast and organized in carrying out her daily activities in Portugal and later in Winnipeg. She had it all together. She was a woman of courage and never complained. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. She was a kind and loving woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. Deolinda will be sadly missed by her son John and his friend Elizabeth; grandson John-Paul and his mother Maria do Ceu Cardoso whom she always considered to be her daughter-in-law. John-Paul was the "apple of her eye" being her only grandson and he loved her just as much in return. To Maria Cardoso, his mother, she was a very good friend. Maria always felt better just by talking to her on the phone and they spoke often. Deolinda will also be missed by her sister Adelaide, numerous nieces in Portugal and the United States, as well as friends and loved ones in Canada. The Cardoso family would like to express our warmest gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital. Prayer service will be held at the Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church (Assiniboia Christian Centre), 3390 Portage Ave. on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Maurice Comeault the following morning, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deolindas memory to a charity of ones choice. "Descanse em paz, Tu estas no nosso coracao para sempre." LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
